First Clip from Terrence Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE
Has hit the internettoday. The film is set to premiere at this years Cannes Film Festival and open in the US a few short weeks later, but other than that precious little is known.It’s a project that Malick has been nursing since the 70s and editing for almost two years now. All that’s been revealed about the plot is that the film will star Sean Penn as a man struggling to come to terms with the meaning of life and the complicated relationship he had with his father during a time of lost innocence he experienced in the 50s. Oh yeah, all this will supposedly be intertwined with scenes depicting the formation of the earth and the universe (including dinosaurs) that Malick has spent years designing with special effects guru Douglas Trumbull ( 2001: A Space Odyssey

The clip is brief, but undeniably beautiful. A collection of floating steadicam shots interrupted by jump cuts depicts three brothers (one of them presumably the younger version of Penn’s character) playing and tormenting their mother with a lizard. It’s as lyrical and hypnotic as one would expect from the Badlands director, but also just as mysterious and enigmatic as any image, footage, or summary to be released about the film so far. Whether it will be a complicated masterpiece, a muddled attempt at greatness, or—more than likely—a combination of the two, will only be revealed once the movie hits screens. But on the plus side, it looks like Malick will finally be releasing the movie for sure….well, at least until he changes his mind again.

I am definitely going to buy an Apple phone when and if it becomes available. I'm sure they'll get the design and interface right, as they always do. I saw someone post something on here (or maybe it was another recent thread) claiming their friend saw the Apple phone branded as a Samsung at a mobile phone convention just recently (which I totally doubt, they would never bring it out in public before release)... I think they're talking about this phone: This is precisely why other companies' attempts to "bring the PC into the living room" have failed (and will continue to do so). Think of the logistics of this (if you will) from an interior design perspective. Are you going to put your media center PC on a TV stand in your living room across from the couch to watch movies/TV? Are you also going to have a desk chair sitting right in front of it for those times you'd like more PC than TV? People (families) do not use computers in their living room and they do not watch movies/TV sitting at a desk. For the average user, I completely agree. Even if you have something like a Mac mini, something that can still look nice next to your home theatre components, you still need an HDTV to be able to use it as a computer. Before Apple jacked the price up $100 on the mini when they switched to Intel, I was going to buy one strictly for the use of Front Row. That would be a rather expensive media streaming box. ;) The iTV is perfect for me, and I think it will be for a lot of other folks as well. You're on the road shooting, and traveling light. During breaks you upload your CF/SD cards to the new "Aperture.iPod". When you're sitting in a cafe, back at your hotel, or taking a train home you whip out the Aperture.iPod and using the Keywords.plist you uploaded from Aperture before you left you start Stacking, key-wording, and ranking images. 3. Greenpeace found 200 parts per million of TBBA (a harmless brominated flame retardant currently used by all manufacturers) in an Apple fan assembly. TBBA is not banned, and even if it were you would need to quadruple the quantity that was detected in the Apple fan assembly before it reached the European definition of concentration that are permitted for 'banned' substances. That's horrible news for me. I Don't know how much longer I will be able to use my iMac for. But I don't want to order a MBP and 3 weeks later, a new one comes out.Alternative temporary plan is buy the refurb 1.
